Vocabulary Quiz September 4!

3 09 2014

The quiz will cover the words used in the crossword puzzle you are doing for homework. The format will be “matching.” If you study the clues on your crossword puzzle, you will do just fine!

Good job constructing the essay today in class. Essay questions are painful, but they are the only way a teacher can know that you really know what you are talking about!

Early Earth and the Origin of Life

28 08 2014

This week we have been talking about the fossil record and what we can infer from it about the evolution of life on Earth. NOVA’s series, Cosmos, offers a fantastic video depicting the scientific explanation for how life on Earth began. Google it and watch it on YouTube when you have time.

You should be concentrating on the following words as we cover 19.3 in your book. Be sure to think about how each word ties in to what we have been learning.

Second Week = Down to business

18 08 2014

Ok, bio-students. We’ve had a week to settle in, so now we start with the meat of the course. Monday we’ll do a pre-test (which you will see again as your final exam). The purpose of the test is not to torture you, though that is an added bonus ;-0

This test shows me what you already know about the ideas we will be discussing this year. I want to see what things we need to hit hard and what things we can gloss over. I’ve already heard a few of you mention several things that you covered to death in middle school. We’ll try to breeze through those items and spend more time on the stuff that is new to you.

Tuesday we’ll start all the way back at the formation of the Earth and do a quick overview of what we know about the timeline of life on our planet.
