It’s GO time!

13 08 2015

“Welcome Aboard,” incoming freshman and “Welcome Back” to my upper classmen who are enrolled for anatomy and physiology.

Go ahead and click on the tab for your class if you’d like to see the course syllabus. The syllabus has your school supplies list if you are going to be shopping this weekend.

Enjoy these final moments of freedom and sleeping in, and we’ll hit it hard Monday morning.

Cheers,

Superbugs!

25 03 2015

We’ve been talking about anti-biotic resistant bacteria this week. So far, you’ve read an article on how Superbugs evolve, discussed the potential impact of McDonald’s decision to go with anti-biotic free chicken suppliers, and today you will be watching a documentary on Superbugs. I hope you will be able to sleep tonight in spite of the horrors you see in class today.

Just in case you want to finish watching it at home or share it with your parents, here’s the link:

Biology End of Course Exam (EOC)

12 03 2015

Our end of course exam is scheduled for May 20. This exam will cover all of the material we have learned throughout the year and it counts as 30% of your final grade.

If you would like to start preparing for the exam (and I suggest you do) you have a few option.

1) Come to after-school tutoring on Tuesdays and Thursdays and earn extra credit.

2) Use this website to help you prepare —

http://biologyeocreview.weebly.com

3) Go back through all of your assignments, notes and quizzes that you have done this year. LOL!! Yeah, right…. like that‘s gonna happen.

Personally, I would go for option 1 or 2. See me if you have questions.

Taxonomy! Sorting out the tree of life

17 02 2015

This week, we are concentrating on chapter 18 and the tools we use to organize what we know about the evolutionary relationships between all living things. Today we learned about the Linnean classification system and scientific names. Tomorrow we’ll learn more about kingdoms and domains. Thursday we have training in the computer lab to show you how to operate the EOC testing software. Friday, you will have an open-book/open-binder quiz worth 50 points.

Next week, we’ll talk more about taxonomy and spend a few days reviewing what science can tell us about hominid evolution.

Unit Review Week!

1 02 2015

Hi Folks — it’s time to pull everything we’ve learned in the past few chapters together. We’ll use Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday to review, and Thursday we’ll take a Unit Test worth 200 points. If your grade is not where you want it to be, this is your chance to turn it all around.

Also, I’ve graded all the assignments that have been turned in thus far. Be sure to check Focus and use this week to catch up on any work that you are missing.

Biotech Quiz on Friday

28 01 2015

Standard Bio: the quiz will cover the vocabulary words you wrote sentences for on Monday, the two techniques used to create recombinant DNA that we discussed today, and a short essay response to the question, “Do you support the development and use of transgenic foods to help feed the world’s growing population? — Why?

Honors Bio: your quiz will be a multiple choice exam covering the reading you have done this week in chapter 15. Use the assessment on page 442-444 to help you prepare.
